Enter Wagner

It's the ninth, time to close
Everybody knows
Who will pitch for the 'Stros
Comin' in from the pen
Gonna save that win
With the heat that he throws

And the music starts up
Open the bullpen gate

One-oh-one
On the gun
Lets it fly
Batter waves as it goes by ...

Felt the blast as it passed
And it won't be the last
Billy throws it fast
Or he'll slide it on by
Make a grown man cry
Batter knows he's outclassed

Gets another strikeout
On his way to the save

One-oh-one
On the gun
Lets it fly
Batter waves as it goes by ...

Batter steps up to the plate
He prays his swing will not be late
He won't get a pitch he likes
Before he gets called out on strikes

Billy throws fastballs and sliders too
And either one can finish you
Bench players know they can't prepare
Just grab the bat and say a prayer

One-oh-one
On the gun
My, oh my

One-oh-one
On the gun
Lets it fly
The batters wave as it goes by ...

I wrote this in June 2003 for Wagner's 200th save, a few days before the Astros no-hit the Yankees. I didn't post it then because I was trying to get it recorded so Billy Wagner could hear it. Two separate deals fell through. The reason I'm posting it now is that I have it on good authority that a copy of the lyrics has been sent to Billy. It's the next best thing.
