The Ticket Saga

When the Astros first got Pettitte
Thought they might get Clemens, too.
So, I got my group together
And said, "This is what we'll do,
I said, "I got a letter
From the Astros in the mail
I can order us group tickets
Now, before they go on sale!"

December 22nd,
Was the date that they had set
But not all of my friends
Had made their minds up yet
I faxed the order early
To make sure that it was done
But then I called to tell them
That I wanted to add one.

The nice young man I spoke with
Asked me for my name
And who my rep was last year
And sent me to the same
As time went by more people
Wanted to sign on
The order went from twenty-three
On up to thirty-one.

Then we found where we were sitting
Right up against the rail
And for season-ticket holders
Tickets went on sale
Some other friends came asking
If they could have seats too,
Eventually the order
Ended up at forty-two

The public bought their tickets
In fifteen minutes flat
And now I found still other friends
Who weren't in on that
They hoped I had some tickets
That others might not use
I had to tell them, "Sorry,
You had your chance, you lose"

A man came to the rescue
With star upon his sleeve
He said, "Ma'am, I have your tickets,
Your block of twenty-three.
I know they said it's sold out,
But we have your order here
It was dated in December,
You have tickets, never fear."

I didn't quite believe him
So I called my rep to see
She couldn't find a record
Of that block of twenty-three
But in my mailbox this evening
I found a print receipt
So I know I'll have those tickets
I know I'll have those seats.

When I ask you next December
If you want to sit with me
I might not be so lucky
With my block of twenty-three
You'd better sign on early
If you really want to come
Or you just might have to watch the game
From on your couch at home.
