to the tune of The Cat Came Back

A man named Dave Mlicki took his place up on the mound
Gave up just one hit, and set the other batters down
Bagwell's homer in the first was all offense it would take
The other three runs scored were just the icing on the cake.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was four to zip. |
This time it was Wade Miller, who struck out seven men
Then came Dotel and Wagner, struck out five more from the pen
And Biggio who homered, (in the first like Bags before)
And in the fourth and fifth, the Astros offense scored three more.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was four to zip. |
Let me introduce a rookie, Kirk Saarloos is his name
His fifth start for the Astros was their only complete game
He didn't walk a batter but he did rack up six K
(Oh and Bags was 2-for-4 and had 5 ribbies, by the way)
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was eight to zip. |
Then Roy Oswalt pitched eight innings fanning nine and walking one
Only giving up four hits before his turn to pitch was done.
Barry Wesson hit a triple, scored on Lugo's fly to right.
Two more runs score in the sixth and Wagner gets the save that night.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was three to zip. |
Wade Miller pitched five innings, held the Pirates' hits to four
Pete Munro faced seven batters, only giving up one more.
Then three more Astros pitchers finished off the Pirate crew
That's three shutout games in four days time amazing but it's true.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was four to zip. |
When the Marlin's came a'callin', Mlicki gave it all he got
It was obvious he struggled, wasn't hitting all his spots.
So they needed five relievers just to finish up the game.
Doesn't matter, 'cause the Marlins were kept scoreless all the same.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was two to zip. |
Hernandez, back from rehab, hadn't seen the Cubs since May
Everyone was wondering just how well he'd pitch that day.
In six innings he gave up four hits, fanned eight and walked just three.
Vizcaino's leadoff homer was the only run they'd need.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was four to zip. |
Coming off of some bad starts, Kirk Saarloos had a day
Griffey Jr. grounded into a bases-loaded double play.
In the ninth Dotel fanned Junior, Sean Casey, Adam Dunn
And Lance Berkman's homer in the first was the Astros' only run.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was one to zip. |
The Padres final game found Pete Munro up on the mound
With more attention focused on the strike clock counting down.
He pitched five solid innings, walking none and fanning four.
Merced made two outstanding plays, and batted 3-for-4.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was five to zip. |
This song had just nine verses, till another shutout came
In the form of one Wade Miller, another complete game
Lance Berkman kept them off the board with a great assist from right
As well as batting 4-for-5 on his hundredth homer night.
| Chorus: |
And the Astros won another shutout game
In "Ten-Run Field", they said it couldn't happen
But the Astros won, the score was eight to zip. |
