Eighteen to zip, all Dodger blue
The pitcher's turn to bat
D-backs pinch-hit, there's no one in the pen.
Bob Brenly says, "I've used four guys,
Don't want to waste one more."
That's when the old first-baseman waves his hand.
| CHORUS: |
Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, I can be
Comic relief.

Left-hander Grace comes in to pitch
With Reboulet to bat
Mike Fetters-like Grace scowls toward the plate
He makes his pitch, a fly to right.
"Hey Sutcliffe, this ain't hard!
I threw one pitch and now there's one away!"
CHORUS
A ground ball, foul, Up high, a ball
A fly to shallow left
Ruan's retired, Grace got the first two out.
Now up comes Ross, the pitch, it's gone
His first big-league home-run
Off Grace (not something great to brag about)
CHORUS
Now Houston's up, outside, a ball.
He fouls off strike one,
A wicked breaking ball, he takes strike two
A pitch outside, another high.
Pop up to shallow right,
And that's the third out, now the inning's through
|
CHORUS: |
Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, gotta be
O-oh! Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I'm ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, I can be
Comic relief. |
