Shannon Young was signed to the Hartford Oceanhawks by Astro Annie just before spring training of the 2008 season. She became the first woman signed to a team in the New England Baseball League. There were speculations that this was a stunt of some sort by Annie to draw attention to the struggling ballclub.

It was no stunt. Shannon proved to be a workhorse for the 'Hawks in 2008. She led the conference in innings pitched with 239.2. She also led in complete games, with 12. Her record was 10-14, giving her the second most wins on the Hartford staff, behind Ezekiel Storm who had 11. She won the Adams Conference Player of the Week award twice.

In 2009, Shannon struggled. She was 2-7 after her first ten starts. In June, though, she seemd to find her groove and went 4-0 with a 1.11 ERA to earn the Adams Conference Pitcher of the Month award.

The 2010 season saw Young win a career-high 15 games for the 'Hawks while losing 8. She improved her career record to 39-36. Her ERA was 3.63, have a run higher than in 2009. This may have been due to an injury suffered in July.

Shannon has kept a blog for NEBL.com since she was signed. Click here or on the link below to read Shannon's blog.
